Summer Registration

What is Summer Registration?

Summer Registration is a mandatory one-day program for all incoming students, marking the start of your college experience at Illinois. You'll be unable to register for classes without attending a registration session.

During the registration program, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Learn more about the university's academic standards and the expectations of your college.
  • Meet with an advisor to map out your academic strategy and select fall classes.
  • Familiarize yourself with our various student support services.
  • Receive your student identification card (i-card). You must bring your driver's license or a state photo ID card to do so.
  • Meet new and current students.
  • Attend sessions and meet with staff from campus offices such as financial aid, housing, campus safety, and health services/student insurance.
  • Visit a residence hall.
  • Find answers to your questions about being a student at Illinois.

Out-of-State and International Students

We encourage all students to visit campus to participate in a Summer Registration program in June or July. However, some may not be able to participate due to excessive distance. If you live more than 500 miles from campus, you may have the option to meet with an academic advisor and register for classes online.

To-Do List for Registration

It's imperative that you complete college homework and any required placement tests two weeks prior to your registration date. Completing these tasks will ensure that you're prepared for registration and will allow you to register for your courses.

Necessary Items for Registration:

  • Your NetID, NetID password, and Enterprise password—for logging in to campus computers and the course registration system.
  • Official Photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.)—for obtaining your i-card.
  • Your name—for your student ID. It's necessary that the name on your official ID exactly match the name under which you applied. Please log in to myIllini and ensure that the names match. If there's a discrepancy, fill out the biographical change form.
  • Your smile—for having your picture taken for your i-card.
  • Casual clothing and comfortable walking shoes—for walking around campus to get to different buildings during registration (be sure to dress for the weather!).
  • A pen and small notebook—for noting important information throughout the day.
  • Transfer Students—bring course syllabi from any non-articulated courses listed on your Transfer Course Evaluation (mailed to students with notice of admission).
